Fundación ”la Caixa” is a Spanish banking foundation whose activities combine social programmes with support for research, education and culture. Its stated main focus is social action, alongside research and fellowships, and cultural initiatives. In its 2025–2030 plan, the Foundation set out to invest more than €4 billion over six years, with social action allocated the largest share of funding.11
Its social programmes address issues including child poverty, exclusion and inequality, employment for vulnerable people, care for people with advanced illnesses, and support for older adults. The Foundation also funds health and social-science research and awards fellowships for higher education. Its cultural work includes the CaixaForum centres, present in nine Spanish cities, CosmoCaixa science museum, exhibitions and public activities.1112
The organisation’s roots date to 1904, when the savings bank Caja de Pensiones para la Vejez y de Ahorros de Cataluña y Baleares was founded in Barcelona by lawyer Francesc Moragas with support from Catalan civil-society organisations. The present banking foundation is the result of the later transformation of the savings bank; its statutes describe its activities as primarily across Spain, with particular attention to Catalonia and the Balearic Islands, and allow for international activity.28
The Foundation’s registered office is in Barcelona, at Avenida Diagonal 621–629. Its chairman is Isidro Fainé.211 The organisation’s official social-media material identifies its Instagram account as @FundlaCaixa; its LinkedIn company page is also listed below.4
