The We-House Baakenhafen is a pioneering housing project located in Hamburg's Quartier Baakenhafen, within the larger HafenCity urban development area. It is designed by the architectural firm eblemesserschmidt partner and features a timber hybrid skeleton structure, combining ecological construction with communal living principles. The project includes 54 residential units across seven floors, alongside commercial and shared spaces, and a roof garden.
The We-House emphasizes community and sustainability, featuring a greened facade and a rooftop hydroponic greenhouse that produces three tonnes of lettuce and vegetables annually. The on-site restaurant serves meals using these locally grown ingredients at cost price. Residents benefit from shared amenities like electric car booking and access to a sauna. The project's ecological footprint is significantly lower than the German average, with innovative uses of greywater and solar energy. This model of co-housing also includes a shared ownership model, allowing residents flexibility in their living arrangements.
