Participativní bydlení v ČR is a three‑year applied research project examining how participatory forms of housing can contribute to more accessible and environmentally sustainable living conditions in the Czech Republic. The project ran from 2021 to 2023 under the programme Prostředí pro život and was supported by the Technological Agency of the Czech Republic and the Ministry of the Environment.110 It focuses on participatory housing, defined as housing where residents are actively involved in the preparation, use and management of their homes, with the aim of improving affordability, sustainability and quality of life.1
The project worked with six municipalities in the Czech Republic, exploring ways to reshape relationships in housing development so that residents can influence key aspects of housing quality while sharing costs and resources.1 Its central objective was to identify the possibilities and limits of socially and environmentally sustainable participatory housing in the Czech context, and to conceptualise participatory housing for Czech practice.510
Participativní bydlení v ČR is developed by a multi‑institutional research team. Partners include the Faculty of Social Studies at Masaryk University in Brno, the Sociological Institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences, the Faculty of Architecture of the Czech Technical University in Prague, Arnika – Centre for Citizen Support, and the Faculty of Art and Architecture of the Technical University of Liberec.948 Key outputs are a methodological handbook for municipalities, a manual for residents, an online guide, a summary research report and a series of public events, including a final conference held on 1 December 2023 in Prague.1910
