Les Cailloux Verts is a participatory housing project in Lille, France, developed on the site of the former Fives Cail industrial area as part of a new eco-district. The project is structured as a mixed co-ownership combining rental and ownership, and it is being carried out as new construction in an urban setting.1
The group was created in 2016 and, according to the project record, expects entry into the building in 2025. It currently brings together 13 households for a target of 20 homes.1 The housing mix is designed to include 14 units in free or social ownership and 6 social rental units, along with shared spaces intended to support collective life.1
The project’s stated purpose is to create an intergenerational and convivial place where residents can live together while respecting individual differences, sharing goods and spaces, and learning collective decision-making. The planned common areas include a common room, guest room, bike shelter, and garden, reflecting a strong emphasis on shared use and everyday cooperation.1
Les Cailloux Verts is supported by the City of Lille, which contributed access to land and a subsidy, and the land development company SORELI is listed as the project’s developer/aménageur.1 The project is also associated with the social housing organization 3F-Notre Logis.1 Environmentally, it aims for performance above current regulations and includes renewable energy and rainwater recovery features.1
