Le Carré Lumière is an innovative housing project located in Bègles, a suburb of Bordeaux, France. Completed in 2015 by LAN Architecture, the project comprises 79 apartments designed to reinvent community housing while maintaining the qualities of single-family homes.
The development features two buildings with a unique ribbon-like shape, offering residents generous loggias that serve as extensions of their living spaces. These outdoor areas, ranging from 13.5 to 60 square meters, provide inhabitants with a sense of privacy and connection to nature while promoting adaptability and personalization.
A key aspect of Le Carré Lumière is its focus on sustainability and economic efficiency. The project was built at a cost of 1,000 euros per square meter, significantly below the regional average. The design incorporates a hybrid climatic model that combines Nordic insulation with Mediterranean patio-style elements, allowing residents to adapt their living spaces to seasonal changes.
