Wohnungsbaugenossenschaft Wuhletal eG is a member-based housing cooperative located in Berlin’s Marzahn-Hellersdorf district. It was founded in 1977 as the AWG "Albert Kayser," originally with the aim of providing housing for employees of the Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe, the city’s public transport operator. The cooperative received its first apartments in 1979, and during the 1980s expanded quickly, acquiring over 3,000 dwellings built largely on former green and agricultural areas.
Today, the cooperative manages approximately 3,100 residential units and about 3,500 members. The housing stock consists mainly of five- and six-storey buildings constructed using the WBS 70 prefab standard, later modernized through structural improvements, including the installation of balconies and elevators. Major renovation and modernization efforts began in the 1990s after German reunification, ensuring the buildings meet current standards.
Recent developments include the "MAXIE" project with 42 mostly barrier-free apartments and the "MAXIE-Treff" center (completed in 2012), and the "Feldbergkarree" project which added 53 new, upscale apartments in 2022. Another notable current project is a wood-hybrid residential and commercial building in Kaulsdorf, featuring 26 rental apartments, commercial facilities such as a bakery and café, and a subterranean garage.
The cooperative’s focus remains on providing affordable, secure, and modern housing, with additional initiatives for children, education, sport, and inclusive, accessible living. All activities are centered in Marzahn-Hellersdorf.
