Teple Misto, known in English as Warm City, is a non-governmental organization based in Ivano-Frankivsk, Ukraine, not Kyiv as sometimes assumed. Founded in 2014, it was established to foster urban and social development through collaboration between local government, businesses, and citizens. The organisation positions itself as a platform for social transformation, aiming to set a precedent for local change in Ivano-Frankivsk that can be emulated elsewhere in Ukraine.
With a staff of 11–50, Teple Misto facilitates diverse projects focusing on urban identity, cultural initiatives, and community synergy. One early achievement was developing Ivano-Frankivsk’s new city logo and architectural guidelines, intended to strengthen municipal branding and orientation. The organisation also runs initiatives like the “Chytai” (Read) project, which promotes cultural engagement and education.
Recent efforts include supporting the creation of visually coherent city signboards and organizing multidisciplinary festivals. These activities reflect a recurring emphasis on combining aesthetics, functionality, and local distinctiveness, rather than following generic trends. Teple Misto also collaborates internationally in the context of urban social innovation.
Although their core mission is rooted in Ivano-Frankivsk, Teple Misto’s model has gained attention for its potential scalability to other Ukrainian cities. The organisation continues to act as a connector for local actors, supporting practical enhancements in city life without relying on broad slogans or ambiguous promises. Their work reflects an ongoing commitment to sustainable urban transformation informed by grassroots participation.
