Stiftung KlimaWirtschaft, a non-profit foundation based at Linienstraße 139/140 in Berlin, traces its roots to the 2007 Initiative 2°, launched ahead of the G8 Summit in Heiligendamm. It formalized as Stiftung 2° in 2011, founded by Otto Group chairman Michael Otto, and rebranded in 2021 to emphasize industrial-scale climate action over goal-setting debates.
The foundation unites over 30 CEOs from sectors like manufacturing, finance, and construction, including Aurubis AG and Bilfinger SE. Its Kuratorium features figures such as climate activist Luisa Neubauer, Otto Group’s Michael Otto, and economist Ottmar Edenhofer. Sabine Nallinger has led as managing director since 2014.
Activities center on cross-industry transformation alliances that develop practical decarbonization solutions, alongside studies, events, and policy dialogues with governments, NGOs, and think tanks. It engages parteiunabhängig on national, EU, and global levels, focusing on the European Green Deal's Fit for 55 package and UN Race to Zero.
Recent efforts include a January 2024 appeal signed by over 60 firms urging a cross-party consensus for reliable investment frameworks to achieve climate neutrality by 2045. Earlier, in 2020, 68 companies called for tying pandemic aid to green investments. Registered as a lobby group since 2022, it funds operations through donations and public grants.
