The Green European Foundation, established in 2008, operates as a European political foundation funded by the European Parliament and affiliated with the European Green Party. Its registered seat is in Luxembourg, with a main office at Mundo Madou in Brussels and additional addresses in the city. Independent from the party and Greens/EFA group in parliament, it connects national Green foundations, think tanks, academics, and activists across Europe to foster debate and political education.
GEF organises events like seminars, workshops, and summer schools—69 in 17 countries in 2018—and runs training programs such as the Greenhouse for activists and the annual European Green Academy in Brussels, with the 2026 edition set for April. It publishes the editorially independent Green European Journal and supports online courses via Green Learning. Recent activities include a dialogue on ecosocialism marking the centenary of thinker Manuel Sacristán.
Through its network of full and associate members, including foundations from Germany, Italy, and Sweden, GEF bridges local activism and EU-level policy on democracy, ecology, and participation, while coordinating transnational projects.
