Dorte Mandrup is an architectural studio based in Copenhagen, Denmark, founded in 1999 by Dorte Mandrup-Poulsen. With a staff of around 60–70 professionals, the practice is known for responding to complex contexts with a combination of artistic and rigorous analytical methods. The office’s work ranges from cultural centers and visitor attractions to educational and residential buildings, with a pronounced focus on integrating projects into their immediate physical and cultural surroundings.
The studio has completed several notable projects. Among them are the Icefjord Centre in Ilulissat, Greenland, recognized for its hovering form above the Arctic landscape, and the Wadden Sea Centre in Denmark, shaped in response to a UNESCO World Heritage natural site. Other significant works include The Whale, a visitor attraction under construction on Andøya island, Norway, and the upcoming Bestseller mixed-use development in Brande, Denmark, which will feature Denmark’s tallest tower when completed.
Dorte Mandrup’s approach avoids standardized architectural language. Each project is addressed individually, often involving deep on-site analysis and close collaboration with interdisciplinary teams. Their portfolio demonstrates expertise in designing for historically, environmentally, and culturally sensitive sites, including five projects located at UNESCO World Heritage sites.
The studio's founder remains actively involved as Creative Director, steering all design work. Dorte Mandrup's role in international juries, exhibitions, and academic positions, such as her chairmanship of the 2019 Mies van der Rohe Award, underscores the studio’s standing within global architectural discourse.
