Archy Nova Projektentwicklung GmbH is an architectural and project development firm based in Stuttgart, Germany. Founded in 1984 by Gerd Hansen, the company quickly established itself as a pioneer in ecological and innovative building. Early on, Archy Nova developed and constructed one of the first wooden houses free of thermal bridges using biological and recycled materials, aligning closely with what would later be known as passive house standards.
In the late 1980s and early 1990s, the firm expanded its activities by launching a store specializing in ecological building materials and developing rainwater utilization systems. Notably, in 1991, Archy Nova introduced the SolArc earth mound house, a low-energy prefabricated home designed in collaboration with architect Jürgen Carstens. Projects such as the Donaueschingen demonstration housing estate in 1993 and the first four-story timber apartment building in Stuttgart in 1999 underscored their commitment to sustainable urban development.
Currently, Archy Nova employs between 10 and 19 people and reports annual revenues in the range of one to five million euros. The company’s focus remains on holistic, sustainable building concepts that prioritize energy efficiency, ecological materials, and social living models. Their portfolio includes projects like the “we-house” cooperative living model and the modular “minimalist XL” building system. Over 40 years, Archy Nova has received multiple awards for exemplary construction and continues to shape approaches to sustainable architecture in the Stuttgart region.
