TUIASI finalizează investiția de 58,5 milioane de lei în campusul Tudor Vladimirescu

The Technical University of Iași (Universitatea Tehnică „Gheorghe Asachi”) has completed a major renovation of three student dormitories (T9, T10, T11) and a modern sports hall on the Tudor Vladimirescu campus. The investment totals 58 559 785 lei, funded largely by the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR). The works aim to raise the energy performance of the buildings from class C to class A, providing 720 upgraded accommodation places and a state‑of‑the‑art sports facility for the university’s 7 000‑plus student community.

The refurbishment covers 14 331,5 m² of dormitory space and 1 588 m² of sports hall, incorporating renewable energy technologies. Photovoltaic panels generate electricity, while solar thermal collectors supply hot water. Rain‑water harvesting systems feed irrigation for campus green areas. Energy consumption for heating has been reduced by at least 50 % thanks to the upgraded thermal envelope and the shift to class A efficiency.

Each dormitory now offers double rooms of 20 m² with private sanitary facilities. The rooms are fully accessible, including specially adapted spaces for students with disabilities. Communal kitchens and dining areas are provided on every floor, alongside reading rooms and recreational spaces. Free laundry services are available throughout the residences.

To promote equity, 40 % of the 720 new places (288 rooms) are reserved for students from disadvantaged backgrounds, mirroring the same proportion for 126 recreational‑space slots. This allocation reflects the university’s commitment to social inclusion alongside environmental goals.

Of the total investment, 47 428 300,88 lei (including VAT) is eligible PNRR funding, while the university contributes 11 131 484,12 lei. The project, coded e‑PNRR 398971505 under Component C15 – Education, ran from 17 December 2024 to 31 August 2026 and was executed by the consortium SC KATAR CONNEG SRL – SC STOOD PROJECT SRL.

The upgraded facilities become operational at the start of the 2026‑2027 academic year, enhancing living standards for over 700 students. The modern sports hall, spanning 1 588 m², supports a wide range of athletic and recreational activities, contributing to student well‑being and campus vibrancy.

A press conference scheduled for 28 August 2026 will present the results, followed by guided tours of the renovated dorms and sports hall. University representatives, including Rector Prof. Dr. Ing. Dan Cașcaval, highlighted the project as one of the most extensive energy‑efficiency upgrades in Romanian higher‑education infrastructure.
