Stimuleringsfonds Creatieve Industrie: Design, Architecture and Digital Culture at the Creative Industries Fund NL
The Creative Industries Fund NL operates from Rotterdam, not The Hague, housed in the Groothandelsgebouw. Established in 1993 as the Architecture Stimulation Fund, it evolved into its current form in 2012, expanding its remit to encompass design, architecture, digital culture and their intersections.
The organization functions as a public fund distributing approximately 15 million euros annually across the creative industries. Government contributions from the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science form the primary funding source, supplemented by budgets from foreign affairs and infrastructure ministries for specific spatial design initiatives.
The Fund supports institutions and individual makers through multiple grant schemes, ranging from one to four-year funding cycles. Grants for activity programs can reach up to 175,000 euros annually for two-year initiatives. Recent selections illustrate the scope: 21 festivals received support in 2026 with a combined budget of 1.35 million euros, while 14 design projects and 11 digital culture initiatives were selected in parallel rounds.
Support extends beyond traditional cultural programming. The Fund backs experimental research, talent development, and projects addressing societal issues through creative practice. The organization evaluates approximately 800 to 900 annual applications, with success rates varying between grant schemes.
Eligibility requires applicants to be registered in Kingdom territories—the Netherlands, Aruba, Curaçao, or Sint Maarten—and to demonstrate substantive and financial viability. The Fund's governance emphasizes quality advancement and professional development within the creative disciplines.
