Skytree

Skytree, headquartered in Amsterdam, is a climate technology company specializing in Direct Air Capture (DAC) technology, which extracts carbon dioxide (CO2) directly from the atmosphere. Founded in 2014 by Max Beaumont, a former engineer at the European Space Agency (ESA), the company’s technology has its roots in carbon scrubbers developed for space stations. These systems originally worked to remove CO2 from confined environments, ensuring prolonged life support in closed atmospheres.

The company’s DAC technology is aimed at decarbonizing industries by providing on-site CO2 generation for uses such as agriculture, greenhouses, e-fuels, and permanent carbon storage. Its products, including the modular and scalable "Stratus" and "Cumulus" units, allow businesses to transition from fossil fuel-derived CO2 and reduce emissions linked to CO2 transportation.

Skytree has been expanding its global footprint. In Amsterdam, the company operates from its state-of-the-art headquarters in the Matrix ONE building at Science Park, which includes labs and engineering spaces. Recently, it has also opened offices in Toronto and Nashville to address the North American market, benefiting from regional climate technology incentives. Globally, Skytree has partnerships with organizations like Fieldless Farms, utilizing its CO2 capture technology in vertical farming.

Currently employing a team that has grown to around 90 members, Skytree’s mission aligns with addressing pressing climate challenges. It has plans for further expansion, including the development of large-scale "Stratus Hubs" capable of capturing tens of thousands of metric tons of CO2 annually.
