AI-Generated Summary

Gropyus is a Vienna-based construction technology company that designs and delivers multi-storey residential buildings as standardized products rather than one-off projects. Founded in 2019 by Markus Fuhrmann, Philipp Erler and Bernd Oswald, the firm has grown to several hundred employees with offices in Vienna, Berlin, Steinhaus and a manufacturing plant in Richen, Germany.

The company focuses on timber-hybrid apartment buildings, produced as prefabricated components in a highly automated factory. According to company and investor information, Gropyus has raised more than €300 million in equity and debt financing, including a €100 million round in 2024 to expand its Richen plant. Once fully ramped up, the factory is planned to reach an annual capacity of around 250,000 m² of gross floor area, equivalent to more than 3,500 apartments.

Gropyus presents itself as vertically integrated: it develops the building system, manufactures wall and ceiling elements, acts as general contractor, and operates a proprietary building operating system that controls functions such as lighting, energy use and access in its homes.

Current projects are concentrated in Germany. In Berlin, Gropyus is constructing a 27-apartment building for BUWOG Bauträger. In Immendingen, Baden-Württemberg, it is developing a first residential quarter of nine buildings with 99 apartments. Earlier projects include a building in Weißenthurm near Koblenz. Beyond the German-speaking markets, the company has signalled interest in supplying housing for reconstruction efforts in Ukraine via partnerships with NGOs.
