Berliner Wohnungsgenossenschaft eG Nord Ost 77 is a housing cooperative operating in Berlin’s Marzahn district, with its administrative office on Lea-Grundig-Straße. The cooperative was established on June 21, 1977 under the name AWG “Ingenieurhochbau Berlin” during the era of large-scale East German housing construction. It grew quickly through the acquisition of newly completed prefabricated buildings from the WBS 70 and QP 71 series, reaching a portfolio of nearly 1,000 units by 1987.
After reunification, the organisation underwent legal and structural transformation, changing its name in 1991 to Berliner Wohnungsgenossenschaft eG Nord Ost 77. The new federal frameworks brought challenges such as mandated property sales in the 1990s to reduce debt; during this period, the cooperative sold 53 dwellings.
Today, Nord Ost 77 manages around 760 apartments and commercial units concentrated in multi-family buildings in Marzahn. The organisation has invested recently in upgrading technical infrastructure, partnering with Telekom in 2024 to provide fiber-optic internet to all properties. In addition to housing, the cooperative offers community activities such as excursions and meetings at its Club 77 venue, and provides guest apartments for visitors.
The apartment vacancy rate remains low, and the cooperative continues to report strong tenant satisfaction. Unlike many larger Berlin cooperatives, Nord Ost 77 maintains a modest, locally concentrated portfolio, focusing on stable and cost-effective living arrangements for its members.
