The ENHR Conference 2024, themed “Making Housing Systems Work: Evidence and Solutions,” was held in Delft, Netherlands, from August 26 to 30, 2024. The event was organised by the European Network for Housing Research (ENHR), with significant local support from the Delft University of Technology (TU Delft), Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment.
This international conference focused on urgent housing challenges affecting Europe, addressing socioeconomic transformations, affordability, the energy transition, and the impact of housing systems on young people’s life courses. The programme featured over 25 workshops, a New Housing Researchers Colloquium, and a variety of sessions where nearly 500 attendees from more than 50 countries exchanged research and solutions on topics such as gentrification, social housing, and sustainable housing design.
Highlights included debates on the role of housing researchers, an “urban safari” exploring Delft’s housing features, and the awarding of the Bengt Turner Award for outstanding research. The event encouraged networking among both established and early-career researchers, and promoted innovative housing strategies, including cooperative housing and the industrialized production of homes.
The ENHR Conference in 2024 showcased new research, fostered international collaboration, and underlined the growing relevance of housing issues in political and academic agendas across Europe.
