Europe Day will be celebrated across the European Union on May 9, 2025, marking the 75th anniversary of the Schuman Declaration, which is seen as the foundational act of the EU. The event honors Europe's achievements, unity, and the ideals of peace, democracy, and cooperation that underpin the European Union. It features open days at EU institutions in Brussels, Luxembourg, Strasbourg, and across all 27 Member States, allowing citizens to visit institutions, participate in educational and cultural activities, and learn about the EU’s work and impact. Special programmes will also highlight cross-border cooperation and celebrate milestones like the 35th anniversary of the Interreg Programme.
Key organizers of the EU-wide Europe Day events are the main European institutions: the European Commission, the European Parliament, the Council of the European Union, and the rotating EU Council Presidency. Activities will include debates, concerts, exhibitions, interactive workshops, and family-friendly events, with the aim of making the EU accessible to all and reinforcing a sense of European community. Major landmarks will be illuminated in EU colors, and there are additional activities planned at Expo 2025 in Osaka to promote European culture and values globally. Europe Day 2025 provides an opportunity for citizens to come together and reflect on Europe’s shared achievements and ongoing challenges.
