Alle unter einem Dach eG is a housing cooperative in Hannover, Germany, formed to develop and operate a shared residential building in the Ohe-Höfe neighbourhood. The cooperative’s project is intended to provide long-term rental homes for people of different ages, incomes and household types, including single residents, shared flats and older people.1212
The group won the site through a City of Hannover land allocation process in 2016; the selection was based on the quality of proposals rather than the highest bid.12 The cooperative completed its building phase in 2021, and residents moved in that year.12 The house contains 12 apartments, including four subsidised homes for people on lower incomes. Rents for the other apartments are based on costs rather than profit.12
The project’s developer is Alle unter einem Dach eG itself, the cooperative established to carry the house and keep it available as rental housing over the long term.312 The cooperative’s “About us” page describes a group of more than 20 people who have worked together for several years; it names members including Lena, Angela, Wolf, Ingo and Käthe, but does not identify a single project founder.2
The building was designed with environmental measures including passive-house construction, rooftop solar panels, and green roofs and façade.12 A ground-floor common room provides space for residents to meet; the group has also discussed possible use of the room by people who do not live in the building.2 In addition to resident membership, the cooperative accepts investing members, whose shares help finance the project and its social housing provision.1112
